This mural depicts the historic Mendez v. Westminster case (1946). Mendez was one of the first Mexican American desgregation cases. The suit was brought by ordinary parents from Orange County after World War II who simply wanted to send their children to integrated schools. "Mendez v. Westminster: Knocking on the School House Door, Mexican Americans and Equal Protection in the 1940's" 8 LRLJ 164.
